About PIP
Puppetry in Practice (PIP) is a non-profit organization founded by ESL (English as a Second Language) educator, Tova Ackerman in 1980. Developed in association with Brooklyn College, CUNY, PIP conducts school residencies, afterschool workshops and parent literacy programs, teacher training seminars and graduate courses. PIP also operates a popular resource center on the Brooklyn College campus and a community center, the PIP Museum, which hosts training seminars and special events.
PIP's methodology is centered on the use of folklore, storytelling, and puppetry. PIP has been recognized by the international educational agency, TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages), and UNIMA (International Union of Puppetry) as a source of quality aesthetic and literacy education.
