Professional Development

Puppetry in Practice hosts a wide variety of arts-based workshops for educators . Some of the courses can be taken for graduate credit and some are institutes for educators interested in bringing arts based literacy into the classroom. Others are provided on-site at schools.

A 5 topic literacy series could be configured as follows:
Five 2-hour workshops (after school)
Two 5 hour workshops(scheduled on weekends or holidays)
Single 2 or 3 hour introductory workshops after school, on weekends, or on holidays
A series of workshops might include some like the following three examples:

Cinderella Stories
This workshop explores multicultural versions of Cinderella and rhythm stories based on folktales from around the world using hands-on puppetry and book arts techniques.  Classroom applications are explored.

Flip's Fantastic Journals
Anglo DeCesare, author/illustrator of the Flip series, shows ways to expand text through the arts.  Participants learn to draw the characters and create puppet characters and extension materials to expand the texts.  Listening, speaking, reading and writing applications are practiced.
