Folk Arts Residencies

Teaching Artist, Xun Ye, is a master craftsman an in the ancient Chinese folk art of flour dough sculpture. Xun teaches students basic sculpture techniques using various materials.

He is also available to offer workshops to teachers, so that this exceptional skill can be introduced into many classrooms. As a full-time artist on the PIP staff, Xun Ye is involved in the development and documentation of many of the programs we offer. Xun Ye was born in Zhejiang, Hang Zhou Province in China and developed his skills as a flour figurine artist under the guidance of Masters Lang Shao An (his grandfather) and Zhao Kou Ming. He is a member of the Hang Zhou Arts & Crafts Research Institute and the China National Arts & Crafts Society. At the age of 32, he was the youngest to be given the title, "Famous Flour Figurine Artist." He has also won numerous awards for his designs including First Place in the Zhejiang Provincial Competition for Best Design and Second Place in a National Craftsmen Awards Competition in China, as well as a gold medal in the Pastry Showpiece Competition in the 10th International Salon Culinaire in Singapore.
